Senate overrides Governor’s veto of budget

The North Carolina Senate voted along party lines to override Gov. Cooper’s veto of the budget. The House is expected to do the same this week. The House Judiciary approved the HOPE Act, which passed the House Health Committee. There will be an amendment on the floor this week to address warrantless access to the Controlled Substances Reporting System as negotiated between NCHA and the Attorney General. For more details on this and other legislative activity, see the most recent NCHA Advocacy Daily Update. Health system leaders from across the state made a strong showing for NCHA’s Behavioral Health Advocacy Week. Thanks to advocates from Southeastern Health, Cone Health, Duke Health, Novant Health, Atrium Health, Vidant Health, Martin General Hospital, Sentara Albemarle, and UNC Healthcare who traveled to Raleigh to meet with lawmakers about behavioral health reform. Your efforts were a strong way for us to tee up SB 630, IVC Reform, which will be heard in the House Health Committee this Wednesday.
