Apply by Sept. 14 to be an ACA Certified Application Counselor Designated Organization

Hospitals and health systems can play a vital role in educating uninsured patients about their coverage options and helping them navigate the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) Federal Health Insurance Marketplace (Healthcare.gov). CMS is currently refreshing the Certified Application Counselor (CAC) Program by implementing an enhanced application and renewal process. CACs may include community health centers, hospitals, other health care providers, or social service agencies. The new application process will promote better engagement with our Certified Application Counselor Designated Organizations (CDOs) and provide the CAC community with an improved user experience. Any organization seeking to provide CAC enrollment assistance to consumers for Plan Year 2019 must apply to become a CDO. Existing CDOs that fail to reapply during the CAC Program re-application window will be de-designated and will not be permitted to certify CACs or assist consumers. More details are here. In preparation for the next Open Enrollment Period, the deadline to submit an application to become a CDO is Sept. 14, 2018. New details were released this week on ACA rates in North Carolina for next year — showing that some areas of the state will see average rate cuts approaching 16 percent, while others will see an 8 percent rate increase on average. The new information shows the extent of the pricing imbalance across the state when it comes to health care, which tends to be most expensive in rural areas with struggling economies and limited options. Read more here.
