The NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is working to help families recover from Hurricane Florence. If you are in the impacted area, help spread the word in your community that DHHS is helping people in 27 counties who are eligible to buy food through the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP). Eligible households will receive a one-time benefit on a special debit card to help buy food. The amount will depend on household size.
- People must apply for D-SNAP in person from Sept. 28 through Oct. 6. Wait times are anticipated at application sites due to the volume of people expected to apply.
- To be eligible you must live in one of 27 counties, have income and resources below certain levels and have losses or expenses because of the storm. Learn more.
DHHS is allowing for flexibilities in the the Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) program, including providing replacement benefits if you’re in one of 27 counties. The department is also providing temporary flexibility for families enrolled in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program. This applies to participants whose WIC office is closed or experiencing hardships due to the storm.
