Surgeon General Urges Action to Prevent Teen Vaping

US Surgeon General Jerome Adams has issued an advisory urging action to address an “epidemic” of electronic cigarette use by youth. “We have evidence-based strategies to prevent tobacco use that can be applied to e-cigarettes,” Adams said. “We must take action now to protect the health of our nation’s young people.” According to the latest national data, 21 percent of high school students reported using e-cigarettes when surveyed in 2018, up from 12 percent in 2017, while 37 percent of 12th graders reported vaping in the past year, up from 28 percent in 2017.
