CMS Interoperability and Patient Access Proposed Rule

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced the Interoperability and Patient Access Proposed Rule that would require CMS-participating hospitals (those who receive reimbursement for Medicare patients) to send notifications of a patient’s inpatient admission, discharge, and/or transfer (ADT) to community providers and care team members that have an established a care relationship with the patient. PatientPing, an NCHA Strategic Partners’ endorsed business, is the nation’s leading real-time care coordination platform. In North Carolina, PatientPing is enabling real-time collaboration between more than 90 hospitals and 250 post acute sites. This established relationship positions NCHA members with strong electronic notifications capabilities. As we wait for CMS to finalize specific compliance requirements, Strategic Partners and PatientPing will provide additional information. See the attached memo for details.
