CMS Issues New Guidance on Identifying ‘Immediate Jeopardy’ Cases

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released new guidance to help surveyors identify when to cite health care providers or suppliers for violations of health and safety regulations that cause serious harm or death to a patient, and require immediate action to prevent further serious harm. Because the changes affect all Medicare- and Medicaid-certified health care providers, suppliers and laboratories, CMS also announced online training on the new guidance, available at https://surveyortraining.cms.hhs.gov.
