CMS Releases Additional Performance Results from 2017 QPP

CMS released a report and appendix providing additional information on clinician participation and performance in the 2017 Quality Payment Program. As reported in November, the update shows that 93 percent of all clinicians eligible for the Merit-based Incentive Payment System who participated in the 2017 QPP will receive a positive payment adjustment in 2019 and 95 percent will avoid a negative payment adjustment. It also highlights data such as participation rates and mean and median scores by clinician type, for small and rural clinicians and those in Advanced Alternative Payment Models; and the most commonly reported quality measures. Eligible clinicians may participate in the QPP through MIPS or Advanced APMs. Clinicians participating in MIPS will receive a payment adjustment during the 2019 payment year based on their performance in 2017. Clinicians participating in an Advanced APM can qualify for an incentive payment in 2019 based on their 2017 performance.
