Pneumonia Regional Meeting – Eastern

Southeast AHEC, Wilmington, NC

May 31, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

COST: Free

Hospital Clinical Documentation Improvement Programs are designed to improve clinical outcomes, reduce costs and improve coordination of care across the continuum. During this seminar you will understand the relationship of quality to the CDI model. You will learn how to recognize clinical indicators in the record that require additional documentation, identify codes and conditions that necessitate greater specificity and identify comorbidities that impact severity of illness and risk of mortality in patients with pneumonia. The roles and responsibilities of CDI members will be revisited with the goal of improving quality metrics while encouraging a “team” mentality. Finally, methods for evaluating program effectiveness will be outlined.

Featured Faculty

Robin Sewell, CDIP, CCS, CIC, CPC
Robin Sewell is the owner of Medical Liaison Services, a healthcare consulting firm in South Florida. Robin has always advocated CDI efforts, even prior to CDI becoming a profession. From the advent of E&M guidelines in the 90’s to EHR mandated implementation in recent years, Robin has recognized the need for documentation gap analysis to bridge final billing of a claim as well as to demonstrate the quality of care provided to the patient. This led to consulting and educational services in a variety of settings. In her 20 plus years’ experience in the healthcare industry, Robin has performed various roles in the Revenue Cycle; from multi-specialty Physician Coding, Billing and Auditing to DRG Auditing and Denial Management.
