Local Management Entities/ Managed Care Organizations were created by legislation in 2011 to serve Medicaid, uninsured, and underinsured patients with mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders. Currently, there are seven LME/MCOs and managed under a 1915(b)(c) waiver.
