Transition to Medicaid Managed Care

Medicaid is an important program, ensuring the state’s vulnerable populations, including children and pregnant women, receive needed care.  In 2015, the NC General Assembly enacted legislation directing the transition of Medicaid from fee-for-service to managed care. Managed care plans went live July 1, 2021.

North Carolina’s hospitals and health systems support a transformed Medicaid program that ensures high quality outcomes, provider protections, and maximizes federal funds.
