NCHA Statement on Governor Roy Cooper Signing State Budget

Cary, NC – July 11, 2022 – The North Carolina Healthcare Association thanks Governor Cooper for signing the state budget plan passed by the North Carolina General Assembly. It contains important provisions for North Carolina hospitals to continue to respond to and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic by codifying specific waiver language to last beyond the end of the public health emergency [Section 9E(2)].

We urge the General Assembly to build on their budget process and success by moving before the end of the year to pass both the Healthcare Access and Stabilization Program (HASP) and Medicaid expansion. Acting quickly on these measures is essential to stabilize struggling hospitals and to provide access to affordable health insurance to more than 600,000 additional North Carolinians including veterans, working people without health insurance and families with children.
